Names of interest include David Ricardo of Gatcombe Park (now the home of HRH Princess Anne). He bought the estate off the Sheppard family when they finally went broke and had only recently moved in to the house. William Playne is of the great clothier family who at this time still had a thriving woollen business at Longford and Dunkirk Mills. Other well-known and illustrious clothiers are Samuel Wathen and Samuel Clutterbuck. The Lord Ducie is recorded as still residing at Spring Park but shortly he would sell the estate to William Leigh. Names that of typical of the area include Clissold, Dangerfield, Iles and Workman. It is also interesting to note the Housman living in Woodchester, of the same family as A.E. Housman and his uncle.
